Betty Shelton is an accomplished and award-winning artist whose work has been exhibited extensively in the Western United States and most notably, at the Orange County Museum of Art, Laguna Museum of Art, San Diego Art Institute, West Valley Art Museum, University of Denver, Cypress College, California State University, Fullerton and University of Texas at San Antonio. She has also exhibited at commercial galleries in California, Texas, Colorado and Arizona, including the Koplin Del Rio Gallery, Tortue Gallery, Orlando Gallery, 1/1 Gallery, Leslie Levy Gallery and the Read Stremmel Gallery. Betty has received numerous painting awards throughout her artistic career, including Colorado Art Association Best of Show, and 1st Place – Notice Art in Orange County.

Born in Fort Worth, Texas, she began traveling at an early age with her family across the United States. After studying at California State University, Fullerton, with artists Don Lagerberg and Vic Joachim Smith, she received both her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in Fine Art. She began teaching in Texas, Colorado and California after receiving her Master of Fine Arts degree at California State University, Long Beach.

Betty has spent the last 22+ years painting and teaching in Laguna Beach, California. She is the Chair of the Post-Baccalaureate Program and the Study Abroad Director at Laguna College of Art and Design.

Her metaphorical, realistic figurative paintings are inspired by contemporary culture and yearly pilgrimages to the great museums of the world. Currently she is working on commissioned portraits and maintaining a studio in the Laguna Canyon Studios in Laguna Beach, California.
