Project Description

Vermeer painted “St. Praxidis” in the 17th Century, after an Italian painter, Felice Ficherelli. St. Praxidis was a Roman saint who took care of the bodies of Christian martyrs who died for their beliefs. This idealized self-portrait was painted soon after I had taken care of my dying father, and it is filled with somber reflection and respect.
